Between defective products and bacteria, the content in your makeup bag has a lifespan, which, if ignored, can lead to skin problems and breakouts.

Today, we are showing you how to maximise your makeup products by extending its lifespan in 5 ways.

How to Extend the Lifespan of Your Makeup:

1. Blush

Expiration Date: Powders can last for 2 years, while creams for 1 year

Applying on top of wet foundation or using dirty brushes can your blush to go bad. If your cream or powder blush becomes chalky and hard, it is time for a replacement.

How to clean it: To prolong your powder blush, you can use a clean brush and allow the foundation to set for a few minutes. When doing this, you are not transferring oils onto your blush, which can encourage the growth of bacteria and cause the blush to harden. Unfortunately, there is no Rx for creams.

Signs you need to replace it: Once your foundation smell, starts to separate, or change color, it should be replaced for the sake of your skin.

How to clean it: There is no way to preserve or clean your mascara, therefore, your best bet is to just replace it. “These days, there are many amazing drugstore brand mascaras, and therefore, you can afford to buy them more often,” according to Gita Bass, celebrity makeup artist and Advisory Board member of Simple Skincare.

5. Nail Polish

It is best to throw the nail polish, once it starts to go bad. There are many budget brands that give you wear and color on the cheap, therefore, you need not hold onto bad polish.

How to clean it: Nail polish that is going to go stale, usually gets thick and difficult to spread over your nails.

This Simple Technique Will Make You Fall Asleep in 30 Seconds or Less

This Simple Technique Will Make You Fall Asleep in 30 Seconds or Less

We all have found ourselves having trouble falling asleep from time to time. It can be really frustrating when you are tired and not be able to get to sleep.

You have tried everything, have your favorite hot drink, had a hot bath, dispensed a few drops of lavender on your pillow and even soft, soothing music is playing. But sitll, no luck.

But have you tried the 4-7-8 breathing trick?

What is the 4-7-8 Breathing Trick?

It is a holistic breathing technique, which is primarily used to fight anxiety and stress, but, can be used to help people with their sleeping problems.

This make sense that it should help because anxiety and stress are often the underlying cause of insomnia, which is the inability to fall or stay asleep.

Alina Gonzalez, who is writing for The Thirty, explains the technique.

How Do You Do the 4-7-8 Breathing Trick?

“You simply breathe in through your nose for at least 4 seconds, then hold your breath for 7 seconds, and exhale through your mouth for 8 seconds.”

According to Alina Gonzales, when you try it for the 1st time, you will be desperate to just take in another breath, or you will want to speed up your counting. But, you should never give in to the temptation.

You must “stick” to the numbers, or at least try to, and do not take any breaks. This means, consecutively repeat the 4-7-8 sequence without resuming regular breathing.

When you keep this up, you can literally feel your heart rate slow down, then your mind get quieter, and your whole body relax physically.

Why Do the 4-7-8 Breathing Technique Works?

According to the friend of Gonzales, who is a licensed wellness practitioner and who told her about the technique, the studied combination of numbers contains a chemical-like effect on the brain, which slows the heart rate and helps one to fall asleep.

How Does the 4-7-8 Breathing Technique Work?

Breathing and stress are inextricably linked. High stress levels can lead to shallow breathing, while shallow breathing leads to more stress.

When you are upset or stressed your breathing becomes shallow and quick. Breathing slowly and deeply, instantly calms you down both mentally and physically.

It is not uncommon for individuals who are anxious or stressed to chronically under-breathe, and sometimes even unconsciously hold their breath.

“By extending your inhale to a count of 4, you are forcing yourself to take in more oxygen, thereby allowing the oxygen to affect your bloodstream by holding your breath for at least 7 seconds, and then you emit carbon dioxide from your lungs by exhaling steadily for 8 seconds”.

“This technique will increase oxygen in your bloodstream and effectively slow your heart rate, and this may even make you feel slightly lightheaded, which can contribute to the mild sedative-like effect”.

“It will instantly relax your mind, heart, and overall central nervous system because you are controlling your breath versus continuing to breathe shallow, short gasps of air,” according to Gonzales.

This breathing exercise is a mindful breathing practice that has been inherent in Eastern wellness modalities and yoga practices for years, but, has only recently been incorporated in Western practices and thinking.

7 Health Insurance Tips That Can Save You Thousands

7 Health Insurance Tips That Can Save You Thousands

You all know that healthcare costs continue to rise. This is due to expensive prescriptions and costly hospital visits.

Luckily, there are many ways to reduce costs when it comes to your health. Here are 7 Health Insurance Tips That Can Sae You Thousands.

7 Ways to Save on Health Care:

1. Choose GENERIC

Skimping on your healthcare is foolish, but, paying a premium for name-brand medication when less expensive generic is available would be ill-advised.

Did you know that the FDA requires both over-the-counter generics and prescription to be identical in strength, dose, efficacy and safety? The generic version will save you approximately 30-50%.

2. Choose a Higher DEDUCTIBLE

Yes, opting for a high-deductible plan can be very risky. If something bad happens, you could be facing a huge out-of-pocket costs.

But, according to Kelsey Allan from TermLife2Go, “if you are relatively healthy and do not anticipate lots of doctor visits annualy, you can increase your deductible in exchange for a lower premium. This can save you lots of money.”

3. Catch ERRORS

Approximately 80% of medical bills contain mistakes. Would not it be better if you had a personal assistant to read your bill and check for errors?

Simplee.com, is a free online tool which keep tracks on what you spend on health care. It links your insurance plans, such as vision, health, dental plans, and health-spending accounts, so they are on display on 1 dashboard.

A user-friendly breakdown of each billing showed what insurance covers and what you owe. Also, the website examines each claim to identify errors, including billing for a service that should be free, duplicate charges, or being billed for an out-of-network provider when that should not be the case.

4. Get an AGENT

Employer plans usually provide the best value, but it is also possible to do better on the individual market if you do not have any preexisting condition. According to Bruce D. Benton, the president of the National Association of Health Underwriters, “In some cases, you can save if you are willing to disclose your medical history”.

Choose a health insurance agent at nahu.org; this is because their fees are paid by insurance companies. This will not cost you anything out of pocket. Also, you also have access to more plans, that can tailor your coverage.

Also, skip benefits you don’t need, such as maternity, eyeglasses and consider an inexpensive, high-deductible plan if you are rarely sick.

5. Pay on TIME

Most people wait to pay their bills until after a medical procedure, such as surgery or hospitalization. But, did you know you could be missing out on potential savings?, according to Michael Foguth of Foguth Financial Group. “If you already have coverage, and you also have a procedure that is coming up, inquire about pre-paying or paying in-full in order to receive a discount”.

6. Think Twice Before Agreeing to TESTS

Asking questions is the key: “When your doctor tells you he wants to order X-rays, lab tests, MRI scans, or CT scans, always inquire what he is looking for and if the test is absolutely necessary”.

Never decline on necessary medical tests based on cost, but, when dealing with this question, some doctors will choose to narrow their focus, and take a more of a step-wise approach.

7. Check Your Insurance

Do not assume that your doctor is still in your insurance network. Doctors typically re-evaluate their list of accepted plans at least yearly, therefore, ask each time you book an appointment.

If your Medical Doctor now works with your plan on an out-of-network basis, his services will often be covered at a much lower rate or never at all.

Consulting another doctor in the same practice? Even if that facility accepts your insurance, the doctor might not. This also goes for referrals.

The change in weather and lots of travelling leads to dullness, dryness, and tired-looking skin. You might even have breakouts, if you do not take proper care of your skin as needed.
Below are 3 products you need to help keep your skin healthy and glowing throughout your vacation.

1. Face Oil

The most important skin care to attend to while you are on vacation is hydrating, cleansing and a nourishing face oil can help with both.

“No one is immune to the effects of sun exposure or travel, not even Hollywood Actors. To make the most of your oil, you should learn how to oil cleanse. Doing this will remove the need for bringing a moisturizer and cleanser.

2. Face Mist

An alcohol-free face mist is a traveling must.

Top 5 Foods to Avoid with Arthritis

Top 5 Foods to Avoid with Arthritis

Thinking about your arthritis as you are walking down the grocery store aisles, or browsing at a restaurant menu may be the last thing on your mind, but maybe you should start.

There are various types of foods known to either suppress or promote inflammation in your body. If you go for the anti-inflammatory choices and cut the inflammatory ones, you may be able to ease arthritis symptoms and pain.

Foods to Avoid for Arthritis:

1. Dairy Products

Dairy products may contribute to arthritis pain because of the type of protein they contain. For some individuals, this protein may irritate the tissue around the joints.

Other people living with arthritis have success switching to a vegan diet, which contains no animal products.

Rather than getting protein from dairy and meat, get the bulk of your protein sources from vegetables such as nut butters, spinach, beans, tofu, quinoa and lentils.

2. Fried Foods

Removing fried foods can reduce your levels of inflammation, as per researchers from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Their study was published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism 2009 .

They reported that fried foods contain toxins known as advanced glycation end products which can increase oxidation in your body’s cells. Also, fried foods are high in fat and can contribute to obesity.

3. Red Meat

Many cuts of red meat contain high levels of saturated fat, that can exacerbate inflammation and contribute to obesity. Red meat also contains omega-6 fatty acids, which can contribute to inflammation if your intake is too high.

Some people with rheumatoid arthritis reported that their symptoms improve when they get rid of red meat in their diet.

But, lean cuts of red meat may provide protein and other important nutrients for individuals with rheumatoid arthritis, without causing additional inflammation.

4. Salt and Preservatives

Know what is in your food. Some foods contain preservatives and excessive salt in order for longer shelf lives. For some individuals, excess consumption of salt may result in the inflammation of their joints.

It is worth trying to reduce your salt intake to as modest amount as is reasonable. Also, read labels to avoid additives and preservatives.

Less salt may help in managing arthritis, therefore, avoid prepared meals. Though they are convenient, microwavable dishes are often high in sodium.

5. Sugars and Refined Carbs

Your blood sugar levels can spike after you have consume simple carbohydrates which are easily broken down by the body. Such foods include sugary drinks and snacks, pasta, white-flour bread, and white rice.

A spike in your blood sugar prompts your body to produce pro-inflammatory chemicals known as cytokines, which can worsen your rheumatoid artritis symptoms if the inflammation affects your joints.

These foods can also cause you to put on the pounds, therefore, stressing your joints.
